I can’t decide if my having dozens of projects on the needles demonstrates more or less commitment to them. Less commitment, that should be obvious, right? I can’t hunker down to just one project so I flitter back and forth between many.
But having more projects demonstrating more of a commitment?
Have you ever looked at a project and known that it was going to take a lot. More than you might consistently have. Not more than you could do, but more than you could do on a regular basis. Have you also realized that it would be worth it? Knowing both of these things did you cast on anyway? So you have made the commitment, one that represents a compromise. You will make it. It will get done. But, in the meantime, does it have to be the only thing on your needles? You and it have an agreement. It knows you’re going to finish it and you know that it’s too much for you most of the time. So occasionally you go your separate ways. But you are committed. You’ll see it through.
Why then would I consider this project among the ones that are “more than I could do” it’s a simple 4 row lace pattern (and 2 of those rows are all purl) and I’ve done lace before, loads of lace, taught lace classes even. It’s because of the yarn and I’ve
worked with it before and loved it. why then? Because it dyed my fingers blue. True blue. And
that was more than I could handle.
But now, now
it’s done.
I was committed.
All it needs now is a good wash.
